IELTS Exam Dates 2026 in Bangladesh and How to Book
27 October 2026 · Updated 30 October 2026 · By BDIELTS

IELTS exam dates in Bangladesh are available almost every week in 2026. Both British Council and IDP run IELTS on computer at test centres several times a week, and IDP says up to three sessions a day. So there is no single "exam date" to wait for: you choose an open date and time when you book online. This guide shows where you can sit the test, how to book step by step, and how far ahead to plan.
Dates and seats change daily, so always check live availability on the British Council or IDP booking page.
When are the IELTS exam dates in Bangladesh in 2026?
Because the test is now taken on computer at a test centre, sessions run on most days of the week in the bigger cities rather than on a few fixed dates a month. IDP Bangladesh describes IELTS on Computer as available up to three times a day, seven days a week. British Council also lists frequent computer-delivered dates and lets you see the open ones by city when you book.
In practice, you can usually find a date within a few weeks in Dhaka. Smaller cities have fewer sessions, and popular dates before university intakes fill up first. The only way to know the exact open dates is to search on the provider's booking page for your city.
Where can I take IELTS in Bangladesh?
- British Council: computer-delivered IELTS at its own and partner test centres, including Dhaka and Chattogram. The venues open to you are listed when you book.
- IDP: test venues in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi, Bogura, Cumilla, Jashore, Barishal, Moulvibazar and Narsingdi. Most venues are in Dhaka (Gulshan, Banani, Dhanmondi, Uttara and Mirpur, among others), and some are approved for IELTS for UKVI.
The fee is the same whichever city you choose: BDT 31,100 for IELTS Academic or General Training, and BDT 34,850 for IELTS for UKVI. See our guide to the IELTS exam fee in Bangladesh for every fee.
How do I choose a test centre?
This is the question students ask most. Every official venue runs the same IELTS test with the same marking, so choose by the date you need and how easily you can get there. A few things help on the day:
- Plan for traffic. Arrive in good time: if you are late, you may not be allowed to take the test.
- Know the building. If you take a practice test at a centre, doing it at the venue where you will sit the real test means the room and headphones won't be new to you.
- Speak up straight away if something goes wrong. If your headphones are too quiet, your computer has a problem or the room is noisy, tell the invigilator at once and before you leave the venue, so it can be fixed or recorded on the day. IDP asks candidates to inform the test centre immediately.
How do I book an IELTS test date in Bangladesh?
You book online with British Council or IDP. The steps are the same in outline:
- Choose the test: IELTS Academic, General Training, or IELTS for UKVI, whichever your university, employer or visa asks for.
- Choose your city and an open date and time.
- Enter your details exactly as in your passport, and upload a clear colour scan of your passport. You need the same passport on test day.
- Pay the fee. IDP accepts a credit or debit card online, bKash or Nagad, or cash at an IDP office, and asks you to pay within two days or the booking is put on hold.
- Look out for the emails. You get a receipt when you pay. IDP sends your test-day details (time, venue and candidate number) 5 to 7 days before the test, and your Speaking test time about 2 days before.

How far in advance should I book my IELTS test?
Book once you're confident of your level and know your deadline. Booking 3 to 4 weeks ahead usually gives you a good choice of dates and times in Dhaka, and more notice helps in smaller cities or before a busy intake. Work backwards from your deadline: allow for the test date, a few days for results, and time for one more attempt if you miss your target band.
Don't book before you're ready just to get an early date. At both British Council and IDP, moving your test is free only if you ask 15 days or more before it, and cancelling less than 15 days before gets no refund. So if you book 3 to 4 weeks ahead, decide quickly if your plans might change.
When will I get my IELTS result?
It depends on the test you take. IDP Bangladesh gives these times:
- IELTS on Computer (Academic or General Training): within 1 day.
- IELTS for UKVI: within 13 days.
- IELTS Life Skills: within 7 days.
British Council gives 24 to 48 hours for IELTS on computer, up to 13 days for IELTS for UKVI and up to 9 days for Life Skills. You see your result online in the test taker portal first, then you can send it to universities. If you have a deadline, check the result date your provider gives you when you book, especially for UKVI.
How do I choose the right IELTS date?
- Your deadline: pick a date that leaves time for a second attempt before your application or visa deadline.
- Your readiness: book when your practice tests show your target band, not before.
- Travel: choose a centre you can reach easily, and arrive early on test day.
- Speaking: the Speaking test can be on the same day or a few days before or after the other parts, so keep those days free.
Are you ready for your test date?
Before you book, find out where you really stand. A full practice test under real exam timing shows your likely band in each skill, so you choose a date you're ready for instead of hoping.
BDIELTS gives you a free full IELTS mock test with real exam timing, instant Listening and Reading bands, and an AI band for Writing and Speaking. It's a practice test, not the official IELTS, but it tells you whether to book now or practise a little longer.
Frequently asked questions
Is IELTS held every week in Bangladesh?
In the main cities, usually yes. IDP says IELTS on Computer runs up to three times a day, seven days a week, but open seats vary by city and by season. Smaller cities have fewer sessions, so check your city on the British Council or IDP booking page.
What do I need to bring on IELTS test day?
Bring the same original, valid passport or smart national ID card you booked with (for IELTS for UKVI, only a passport). A photocopy is not enough, and without it you can't sit the test. You may take water into the test room only in a clear bottle; food and watches are not allowed, and there is a clock in the room. British Council emails your start time at least three days before the test, so check that email for anything else your centre asks for.
Can I change my IELTS test date after booking?
Yes, at both providers. A move asked for 15 days or more before the test is free. From 5 to 14 days before, it costs 25% of the fee (BDT 7,400 for IELTS at IDP, which also asks for supporting documents). Less than 5 days before, you can't move it. IDP lets you move one booking twice at most.
Is the Speaking test on the same day?
Not always. Speaking can be on the same day as Listening, Reading and Writing, or within a few days before or after. Your provider emails you the Speaking time.
Which is better for booking, British Council or IDP?
Both run the same IELTS test with the same fee and the same result. Choose the one with a date, time and centre that suit you.
Can I still take IELTS on paper?
No. Full paper-based IELTS is no longer offered in Bangladesh: IDP stopped it after 31 January 2026, and both providers now list only computer-delivered tests. Some IDP sessions let you handwrite the Writing section while doing the rest on computer, for the same fee.
What if I'm not happy with my score?
You can ask for a remark within six weeks (BDT 12,500 at British Council, BDT 10,500 at IDP, refunded if your score goes up), or retake one skill within 60 days with IELTS One Skill Retake. Our IELTS fee guide explains both.
Can I buy IELTS questions or pay for a guaranteed score?
No. Anyone selling IELTS questions or promising a score for money is running a scam. Book only through British Council, IDP or a registration partner listed on their websites.
